Here you will find a broad viewing of what the dental trips involve and also some of the feedback we have received. We are sure that you will find them interesting.

To date we have run two dental trips to the Pokhara area of Nepal, in Jan 2003 and Jan 2005.

We have had the support of ADRA Nepal and several Australian organisations.

Oral Hygiene Instruction

The opportunity exists to make a difference!
We may not be able to save the world.

We do know that we can make a difference for some people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Our services are free and distributed equally between the Nepal and Tibetan refugee communities. Most of our work is in the surgical/extraction field as the time and equipment are limited. Some restorative work is carried out and periodontal work is also conducted.

We always take the time to give Oral hygiene instruction in particular for the children.

We are fortunate to always have local interpreters assisting us.

The reality is that there are almost no dental services available for the communities that we treat. Dental decay and gum diseases are rampant.

Consequent effects on the people's health is dramatic and does not differentiate for any age groups.

Poverty is the common denominator.

Report from Chris Catsanis the coordinator of the 2005 trip:

Dear Friends of Nepal & Tibet

At last we are finished the Dental projects. Quite a success - 750 patients examined and 625 treated in 8 days averaging the last days at 98 patients a day.

A total of 30 Tibetan and Nepali dignitaries were there to thank Tashi Palkhiel charity Australia the Dental team, for their concerted effort to help the needy communities of both Tibetan and Nepali people.

I want to thank the kind hospitality of Lodrik Welfare members who made this trip a success, and the concerted effort of the Australian team led by Dr Terry Wong and Dr Maria Claudianos and the rest of the team members.

Our Nepali Long time friend Narayan Pahari and the staff of Mandala Hotel in Pokhara and a special homage to ADRA Nepal's Bishnu and Rajendra and the staff at ADRA in Banepar for making this possible.

Many Blessings
